Flower Child Meets Rock and Roll Mama || Hayden's Outdoor Maternity Session

Within our first few emails, I knew Hayden and I were going to make some magic together! I absolutely love her energy, and we clicked right off the bat. Her session was like a dose of creative medicine that I desperately needed after not shooting for so long and being in quarantine at home. I pulled that long lens out, dusted it off, and made some beautiful socially distanced maternity portraits for this goddess of a woman.

Hayden and my good friend and go-to makeup and hair artist, Katie-Laine Thornton, are long time friends, so the three of us had such a great time together on this shoot. We laughed so much, and as we created art, felt a little more alive and ourselves again I think.

Style wise, we went with a few different looks. The first one showed off her inner flower wild child. I loved the happy, free spirited nature this brought out! And then for her second look, we went with some glam rock and roll vibes, because- get this- her baby boy’s middle name is going to be Bowie!! How cool is that?? And we ended the session with some strong, powerful, earth mama, bare belly, run through the fields naked vibes! I just love these. It’s so fun to get to photograph women embracing their body, it’s new curves and shapes, and how strong it is as you grow a human inside you! Give me all those bare bellies. These are some of my favorite parts of maternity shoots!

I’ve really fallen in love with maternity sessions, and hope to continue doing a lot more of these! I just adore seeing and photographing the strength and beauty in women during this time in their lives. I feel that with each maternity session I photograph, I get to see the unique ways in which each women experiences this time differently, which can lead to so many creative possibilities for each session!
