Our Relationship With Our Bellies

The main body image hang-ups that I've encountered with folks, and with myself, are so often around bellies. We hold so much power and strength in this area, yet we relentlessly tell it it's not "good" because it doesn't look a certain way. But here's a reminder : bellies aren't good or bad...they are simply bellies. Your belly doesn't hold moral worth, the way it looks doesn't make you a good or bad person, it doesn't make you more or less capable of experiencing desire or pleasure simply because of how it looks, and it definitely is not worthy of the shame that we so often carry around it.

It can be so easy to allow our feelings about our bellies dictate our lives - whether it be not wearing that cute outfit you really wish you "could" wear (ps- you CAN wear it and I bet you and your belly are gonna look real cute) to not allowing your bare belly to experience the warmth of the sun on it, or the coolness of water while swimming, not wanting to be in photos, letting your belly growl instead of nourishing it with your favorite foods, not allowing yourself to experience the touch of a lovers hand on your stomach. Isn't it wild that we don't allow ourselves to experience so much simply because of how one part of our bodies look??

You don't have to love your belly if you aren't ready to do that yet. But acknowledging that you simply have a belly, and that we all have bellies, and that they come in a plethora of shapes, textures, sizes, and colors, can be a good first step towards showing yourself some kindness. And I think the more we can see all types of bellies represented, the more all types of bellies are normalized, the more comfortable we may become with our own, and to no longer allow the way our bellies look dictate the joys we experience in life. Your belly is as unique and beautiful as you are.

Sessions with me are safe place for shame free exploration of your relationship to your body, and the celebration of it's unique beauty and power!
